Alberta’s Spring Snow and Ross’s Goose Hunting Season
As of 2015, Environment Canada is permitting Alberta to have a spring conservation order (hunting season) for Snow and Ross’s geese (dates: March 15 - June 15).
Those that have traveled to Saskatchewan or Manitoba to hunt snow geese in spring will confirm that this is the best time of year to target these birds. Their gregarious nature and spring feeding intensity make them easier to decoy, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how fat they are just before heading north to their nesting grounds.
As in fall, a daily bag limit of 50 (lesser snow or Ross’s geese, combined) will apply, with no possession limit.
Please note that as in fall, recorded snow goose calls may be used. All other hunting regulations need to be followed (firearm plugged to accept no more than 3 shots, hunting times between ½ before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset, trespass laws, etc..)
If considering this opportunity, please remember to purchase a 2016-2017 Alberta Game bird hunting permit, available March 16 2016 (Your 2015-2016 Alberta Game bird permit will expire March 31 2016). Additionally, keep your 2015-2016 federal hunting permits.
